Be good

sometimes, I feel that all the problems faced by us whether trivial difficulties of everyday living or big time concerns stem from just unkindness. If we all show a small amount of kindness to people who are not so comfortable as us I think this world is going to be a better place to live. Somehow, such is life that mind has been regarded as supreme and the decisions that are devoid of sentiments are being praised. Thus, we praise a business tycoon who mercilessly butchers jobs of many people on the pretext of shoring up bottom line and then goes on foreign jaunts himself and takes indecent hike in his salary. He is being unkind but gets all the admiration from everyone around for being ruthless.

Why being ruthless is admired upon? The fundamental thought that the fittest will survive shreds the principle of kindness to bits. In nature if you see everything is coexistence and something as simple as plant making food from carbon di oxide proves it. You got to have plants if you wish humans to live because this is coexistence at the basic level.

Taking it from there everything is just coexistence. Humans have to learn to coexist with others and kindness cements the concept. How many times you have got stuck in traffic chaos, because a smart alec thought that he will usurp the right of the way of someone else and reach his destination faster. If we all start giving right of the way, we all will get the right of the way, but in the chaos of usurping the right of the way we just create more traffic jams.

Somehow, we have begin to believe that kindness costs a lot of money. Actually, it doesn’t. I have few children of labourers who stay below my house and each day when I go to work they greet me with chirpy Good Morning and I respond to their infectious enthusiasm. When I come back everyone shouts Good Evening and I again respond.

There is no exchange of money involved in this, but the point to be noted is that this exchange happens only with me, whereas at least there are 30 families residing in my row, because no one wants to be kind to children who don’t belong to their social strata. And this way the boundaries of class differentiation are being cemented and made stronger, which percolates from the grown up generation to children.

Let’s be kind to everyone around and somewhere you’ll feel better yourself. Your soul will benefit from kindness and it is good for your body too. Though no doctor ever prescribed it, yet try it. Your are not going to lose anything.
